Aberystwyth University is one of the top 10 institutions of choice to study in the UK and no.1 in Wales for Norwegian students according to the latest HESA figures.

Aberystwyth is home to around 900 international students from more than 90 countries, making Aberystwyth University a truly cosmopolitan and culturally diverse place to be.

With 98 Norwegian students currently at Aberystwyth studying a wide range of degree schemes, the most popular area of study is at the world-renowned International Politics Department and the Department of Theatre Film & Television Studies.

Originally from Oslo in Norway, Ellen Dingstad is a third year student studying Film and Television Studies at Aberystwyth. She explains, “I really enjoy studying here.  The lecturers encourage me to do well and as a result, I want to make the university proud.

“Aberystwyth is a very social place and it’s so easy to get to know other people and Norwegians in the town. There is a large range of social activities for students to get involved in because in Norway, there isn’t much choice as it’s so academically focussed.”

Ellen recently gained work experience on the Y Gwyll / Hinterland filming set and adds “I thoroughly enjoyed my time on the Hinterland set. It might not be the easiest profession to get into, but the rewards of helping to create something is unsurpassable. This experience has strengthened my belief in pursuing a career within film and television.”

Norwegian students excel at the university with 70% achieving a first or upper second class degree compared with 59% from all other countries (summer 2013).

At the University, students are also encouraged to get involved in a wide range of social and sport activities. Norwegian students in particular are successful in these activities with several becoming presidents and captaining the societies and sports clubs.

Aberystwyth University has the best range of Scholarships, Bursaries and Awards of any university in the UK (Higher Expectations Report / Youth Sight 2012-13) and is the safest University in England and Wales to study (Complete University Guide 2013 / Daily Mail 22/07/13).
