Results Day and Clearing

<t4 type=

The lead up to A Level Results Day, and the day itself, can be a time of great excitement mixed in with anxiety.

If your child/ward doesn’t quite get the results they expected they can review their options through Clearing.

Thousands of students are offered places through Clearing each year and go on to enjoy their time at university and enter successful careers afterward.

Our step-by-step guide to Clearing will help guide you through this demanding time.

Clearing – Step by Step Guide:

  • Check UCAS Track: remind your child/ward to make sure their details are up-to-date in UCAS Track
  • Plan ahead: make a list, with your child/ward, of options they could consider if their results go better (i.e. Adjustment) or worse than expected – e.g. you can start researching Clearing listings before Results Day, in early July
  • Be ready: on Results Day, if your child/ward needs to enter Clearing, make sure they have universities phone numbers and their details at the ready – e.g. UCAS Pin Number, qualifications, the course they’d like to study, contact details, questions to ask
  • Phone: phoning universities during Clearing is usually the fastest way to get in touch and encourage your child/ward to phone themselves as their application cannot be discussed with other parties
  • Take notes: encourage your child/ward to find somewhere quiet and comfortable to make their calls, asking questions and making notes as they go, to avoid confusion when it comes to making decisions
  • Confirmation: after you child/ward receives a verbal offer it’s important for them to double check their email address is correct as they will receive an email confirmation of their offer
  • Update UCAS Track: at 3pm on A Level results day your child/ward will then be able to login in to UCAS Track add and accept their new university choice, breathe a sigh of relief and celebrate!
