Safest place to study in Wales and one of the Top 10 safest in the UK (Complete University Guide, 2016)
Aberystwyth is based on the east coast of mid-Wales. Surrounded by the Cambrian Mountains and overlooking Cardigan Bay, it would be a challenge to find a university set in a more stunning seaside location.
Since its establishment in 1872 the university has grown and developed alongside the historic Victorian market town of Aberystwyth and now is enjoyed as a popular holiday destination by tourists (and students!) from all over the world.
If your child/ward decides to join us at Aberystwyth they will soon realise that they have not only become part of a distinct and diverse student community. But, also, part of a friendly and vibrant local community too – with a wide range of events and activities on throughout the year.
There are plenty of things for your child/ward to do locally – from exploring boutique shops, grabbing a coffee on the go, going out for drinks with housemates, celebrating with friends in one of many restaurants, relaxing on the beach, walking up Constitution Hill and strolling the prom to “kick the bar”!
Further afield there is plenty to explore too. For an adventure, there are great areas for outdoor activities, such as mountain biking in Nant Yr Arian, sailing in Bala, mountain climbing in Snowdonia and more. For a more relaxed day out, there are quaint coastal towns nearby like Aberaeron in the south and Aberdovey in the north. Shrewsbury and Birmingham are only a train’s journey away too!
