International Student Deposit

With the introduction of the Points Based System (PBS) for student visas, AU will now adopt a deposit system in place of financial status checks. This is already widespread practice amongst universities in the UK and will augment the checks carried out by the UK’s Entry Clearance Officers (ECOs) rather than duplicate them.

Payment of a deposit may strengthen an applicant’s case for obtaining a student visa and in some cases are required before they may be able to secure a student loan.

All non-EU Applicants are required to pay a £2,000 deposit in order to become fully accepted on to an Aberystwyth University Postgraduate course.

Applicants who provide evidence that they have full scholarships (i.e. entire cost of tuition fees plus living costs) and AU-graduates will be exempt.

The deposits are non-refundable unless original evidence is provided of the ECOs decision to refuse the visa. However, if refusal is the result of misleading or inaccurate information as part of the visa application, the deposit will be withheld and the offer of a place of study withdrawn.

Deposits on tuition fees may be deferred along with the place of study up to a maximum of two years from the initial start date.

Applicants may pay the deposit directly to AU by:

  • Cheque or Banker’s draft: made payable to “Aberystwyth University” and ensure that your application/personal id number (10-digits) and “Deposit” are noted on the back of the cheque/banker’s draft. These are to be sent directly to the Postgraduate Admissions Office.

  • Bank transfer: please quote your application / personal id number (10-digits) along with the following: Name of Bank: HSBC Bank plc, 19 Great Darkgate Street, Aberystwyth. SY23 1DH. Wales. UK. Bank Sort Code: 40-08-09 Account Number: 21616110 Name of Account: Aberystwyth University Student Deposits Account IBAN Code: GB96MIDL 40080921616110 SWIFT BIC: MIDL GB 21 15W

  • Alternatively, deposits in the form of banker’s drafts made payable to Aberystwyth University may be held by an AU Contracted Educational Agent (CEA). These are to be scanned and e-mailed to the Postgraduate Admissions Office.

Once the applicant has registered with the University and officially becomes an AU student, Income Services will reconcile the deposit with the student’s deposit with their tuition fee payment schedule.

Refunds can only be paid to the source of the initial payment for the deposit.

For courses lasting more than one academic year, please note that fees change annually.
