Do I have to take an IELTS or a TOEFL test?
If you’re an international applicant, you must provide satisfactory evidence that your command of the English language, both spoken and written, is adequate for the programme of study for which you have applied before you can be firmly accepted to study for at Aberystwyth. This includes you if you’re from a country where English is not an official language or your first language is not English. Every student must be able to understand rapidly spoken English, as well as speak and write English, otherwise lectures, seminars and practical classes will be difficult to follow. Use of the library and success in examinations also depend upon a good knowledge of the language. Dissertation and theses must be written in either English or Welsh. For further information on our requirements, please see the
English Language Requirements.
