The Department has since its inception been a centre for research, and our research reputation is being actively maintained today. The Department was awarded a 5*A grade in the last Research Assessment Exercise on the basis of its staff’s research and publications, and we now have the largest Graduate School of any Welsh or Celtic department in the UK.
Library facilities for researchers in Welsh and Celtic are excellent in Aberystwyth: apart from the rich Welsh and Celtic collections of the University’s own Hugh Owen Library, the Department benefits from its proximity to the National Library of Wales with its remarkable collections of Welsh manuscripts, printed books and journals.
