Institute of Geography and Earth Sciences
Aberystwyth was the first department to offer students single honours degrees in human geography and physical geography and has always been at the cutting edge of innovations in teaching and research. This can be seen from the most recent Research Assessment Exercise (RAE) in 2008, where the Institute was ranked in the top 12 departments in Britain for Geography, with 20% of research classed as "world leading" and 45% classed as either "world leading " or "internationally excellent".
Here at Aberystwyth University, there are opportunities for study in an environment that is hard to beat. The Institute is situated in one of the most picturesque locations in Europe. Set on the coast of Cardigan bay and surrounded by mountains, Aberystwyth and the Institute are uniquely placed to make the most of the stunning landscape around them.
We are passionate about what we do. We work in one of the most beautiful and relevant areas for Geography and Earth Science and are proud to do so.
A large proportion of our masters students are funded through a Wales/EU initiative called Access to Masters (ATM) which provides full fees and a stipend of more than £5000. These scholarships link masters teaching to student research with external partners in the private, state and voluntary sector.
