A Brief History
Established in 2008, Psychology is the most recently established department at Aberystwyth University and has expanded rapidly and currently oversees 300 students. In September, 2011, the department moved into its new permanent premises in the refurbished Penbryn 5 building. The building is home to all of the department’s facilities; laboratories, teaching rooms and staff offices.
Since 2013 Psychology has been accredited by the British Psychological Society, a mark of quality widely acknowledged by employers in the professional field and which grants the opportunity for graduates of the department to gain Graduate and/or Chartered membership of the society. BPS accreditation is important for students looking to maximise their future options. The University has achieved the Athena SWAN Bronze Award, showing its commitment to the advancement of the careers of women in Science, Education, and Technology in higher education.
