Celtic Studies and Irish

There is no such thing as a typical celtic studies student at Aberystwyth University. In the last few years our undergraduates have come from Germany, Ireland, America, England, Scotland and Cornwall as well as from Wales. Some have a personal attachment to one of the Celtic countries; some are reforging a distant family connection; many are on a journey into the unknown.

The four-year Celtic Studies course at Aberystwyth introduces you to many aspects of the culture of the Celtic-speaking peoples, past and present, and in particular their languages and literature. We teach all the Celtic languages which have an unbroken tradition as an everyday means of communication: Breton, Irish, Scottish Gaelic, and Welsh. No previous knowledge of any of them is required. We only require enthusiasm and commitment.
