Physics

Physics is a brilliant subject to study and the discipline brings rigor and versatility to whatever you do. Simple at heart, physics travels everywhere, feeding all the new sciences and fostering the most modern technology. The numeracy, adaptability and practical skills you learn as a physicist are an excellent springboard to employment.

At Aberystwyth we place a strong emphasis on teaching physics effectively. Our record is excellent and is built on more than 116 years of experience. The department comprises a compact group of talented and dedicated physicists which means we can offer small classes and a caring tutorial system - a tangibly friendly atmosphere in which to learn alongside gifted practitioners.

Physics at Aberystwyth has an enviable past and a splendid future. With great names such as E.J.Williams, the discoverer of p-meson decay, and Sir Granville Beynon, the father of ionospheric physics, our pedigree is outstanding. The department hosts a creative staff at the leading edge of the physics of materials, sensors, X-rays, combustion, shock waves, the atmosphere and space itself.
