The Process
- The need for a new or restructured module is recognised by the Department.
- A module co-ordinator is identified.
- Using the A.U. module approval form and these guidelines, the module co-ordinator prepares a draft in consultation with the co-ordinator of the relevant degree scheme(s).
- As a matter of good practice the agreed draft should be submitted for approval to the Department's Learning and Teaching Committee.
- The approved version of the module proposal is signed by the Head of Department, submitted to the Director of Information Services and Timetable Officer for consideration and once all the signatures are collected passed to the Secretary of the appropriate Faculty.
- Depending on internal Faculty procedures, the module proposal may be sent to an individual assessor for comment before it is circulated in the Faculty papers.
- The Faculty will consider the proposal, together with any assessor's comments, and decide whether to
- to approve the proposal as presented or
- to refer the proposal for approval by the Dean, subject to specified amendments having been made or
- to refer the proposal back to the Department.
- Resources: Submission of the module for approval assumes that the department responsible for the teaching already has available to it the necessary resources - staff, facilities, etc. Faculties are responsible only for academic approval of modules. Decisions on any additional resources that may be required are for Planning and Resources Committee.
- The module proposal in the form approved by the Faculty will become the basis for all relevant documentation, including the A.U. module database and degree scheme handbooks.
N.B. The final deadline for new Part One and Two module proposals is the March Faculty meeting (in time for provisional registration) in the session prior to the one in which it is intended to introduce the module. Only in exceptional circumstances, such as those arising from staff changes, will the Faculty consider module proposals submitted after that date.
