Handing-Over Notes for Deans of Faculties
2.0 Assurance of Quality and Standards
The key set of responsibilities which the Deans must discharge concern the assurance of quality and standards in teaching. These responsibilities are discharged in a variety of ways: through chairing Faculty Examination Boards which confirm degree results; through chairing the Faculty meetings where new modules and study schemes are discussed; and through involvement in the Academic Affairs Committee which has oversight of the University’s academic standards and undertakes reviews of departmental teaching. In these and many other ways outlined below, the Deans play a central role in the development of academic policy, its implementation and monitoring, and ensuring that the academic policies and practices at AU engage fully with the academic infrastructure which has been developed by the Quality Assurance Agency.
