Good Research Practice

7.0  Integrity of Submitting Research Proposals

It is standard practice in science for a research proposal to be developed between several collaborators, and opportunities for the use of any fraudulent information are limited. In addition, the HOD, and some cases the departmental Director of Research, reads and signs grant applications. The Finance Office provides the information on staff costings and the Director of Finance signs the applications on behalf of the Institution. All components of a grant (consumables, salaries, travel etc) have a unique expenditure code and there is a paper trail through which to track the financial records of a research grant. In the event that any fraudulent information should be presented, or any fraudulent behaviour should occur, it will be dealt with under the procedures outlined in the section 'dealing with allegations of misconduct'.
