The Indonesian Ministry of Education Directorate General of Higher Education (DIKTI) and Aberystwyth University are proud partners of the Indonesia-UK DIKTI Scholarship Programme.

The programme is open to lecturers at Indonesian Universities and administration staff who work at DIKTI, to study for their doctorate in the UK. Funded by the Indonesian Government; 750 academics will be given the opportunity to study in many of the leading universities and higher education institutions in the UK over the next 5 years.

Global Innovation Initiative and British Council
 

Funded by the Global Innovation Initiative (GII) and the British Council, “Establishing a network of research excellence for mine reclamation in Southeast Asia.” is a project Dr Bill Perkins; an Aberystwyth University Reader, and Bangor University senior lecturer, Dr Graham Bird, have been working on with Indonesian institutions to discuss mine water remediation.

Seameo Biotrop opened the workshop allowing academics to exchange experiences on the subject in order to generate recommendations that address issues and concerns.

As Indonesia is now one of the largest coal exporters of the World, workshops like these have allowed them prepare for the major environmental problems that can be caused by these mining.

 

 

 

UK-Indonesia Food Security Consortium ‌

During the Science and Innovation Conference; which was sponsored by the British Council in Jakarta 2013, the UK-Indonesia Food Security Consortium was born.

The Consortium involves a partnership between Aberystwyth University and 17 other institutions (mostly Universities in Indonesia) who seeks to enhance food security in Indonesia through improvement in productivity, quality and safety of native food crops.

At its latest meeting in April 2015, a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed by Aberystwyth University and Universitas Gadjah Mada, which paves the way towards future funding for research collaboration and exchange of staff and students.

International English Centre 

Aberystwyth University offers International Students the opportunity to benefit from their breadth of experience in teaching and improving the English of academics through their English and Communicative skills course.

The popular course lasts between 2 to 10 weeks, offering lively, creative and interactive opportunities to explore, make friends and develop English skills both inside and outside the classroom.

Investing in You 

Over the next three years, Aberystwyth University will be investing over £100m enhancing and extending the already excellent residential and teaching facilities.

These include:

Investing in our Heritage The Old College; where an initial proposal for the 'New Life in the Old College' project includes Art and Exhibition Galleries, Performance Spaces and a Cafe/Restaurant.

New Accommodation Fferm Penglais; a new residential project worth £45m.

Study Facilities The Llanbadarn Centre; £4.5m has been invested into the campus to create a new business and professional environment. This will be for the School of Business and Management, the Department of Law and Criminology and the Department of Information Studies.  

The Gogerddan Campus; where £35m will be invested into the development of a new UK Innovation and Research Campus.

Research Focused University 

We have a vibrant research community, and are amongst the top 3 places in the World to be a student.

95% of the research activity submitted by Aberystwyth University to the Research Excellent Framework (REF2014) is of an internationally recognised standard or higher, with World leading research identified in all 17 of the Units of Assessment submitted.

We submitted the highest percentage (76%) of REF eligible staff, out of all the Universities in Wales, and our Department of International Politics was ranked in the Top 10 of the UK by research quality; the Institute of Biological and Environmental Sciences was in the top 10 by research intensity; Geography and Earth Sciences was 1st in Wales for research quality; and 96% of our research impact was of an internationally recognised standard or higher. 
Other high performing disciplines were: Art, Computer Science, English and Creative Writing, History and Welsh History, Law and Criminology, Sports and Exercise Science and Theatre, Film and Television. 

In the World QS University rankings 2015, Aberystwyth is amongst the top 200 universities in the World for Agriculture, English, Geography, Environmental Sciences and Politics.

The Department of Information Studies are able to supervise students researching any aspect of Modern Librarianship or Information Science. In doing so, you will be introduced to the key information handling skills and develop your ICT, management and interpersonal skills.

The Department of Information Studies has an impressive track record, and throughout the past forty years of teaching, they have produced some of the UK's, and indeed the World's leading librarians and information professionals.

The PhD will take a minimum of three years for full time study, however candidates who already possess a masters degree obtained by research or advanced study will have this period reduced by a year.

When studying for your PhD, Aberystwyth University realises that students have different needs to Undergraduates. Family Accommodation

As Aberystwyth is such a friendly, family orientated town, the University offers family accommodation; which can be rented out at a yearly basis. This includes a 3 bedroom house, a 3 bedroom flat, 3 x 2 bedroom flats and 6 x 1 bedroom flats. Each of the accommodation on offer is self-contained with a kitchen and study area; and is walking distance from campus as well as the nearest convenience store.

Tier 4 Student Visa

Aberystwyth University is a registered sponsor under the Tier 4 Point-Based Immigration system. This gives us the ability to recruit and sponsor International Students. 
You can apply for your Tier 4 Student Visa up to 3 months before the start date of your course. However, due to each of the visa applications having to be assessed individually, it may take up to 2 months for you to gain a response.

Due to the strong relationship between both the University and the Town; Aberystwyth University is able to benefit from successful community cohesion and offer its facilities to both staff, students and the community. These facilities include the vibrant Arts Centre as well as the excellent Sports Centre.
The 'town and gown' relationship is also featured through the Sports and Societies within the University; as they are encouraged to gain sponsorship from the local businesses in Aberystwyth town.

Aberystwyth Town offers a variety of activities to do with the family, some of these include:  

National Library of Waleswhich is recognised as one of the greatest libraries in the World due to its array of books and periodicals, manuscripts, archival documents, maps and photographs, as well as paintings, photographs, films, videos and electrical publications and archives. 

Aberystwyth Arts Centre; which offers a cinema, theatre, dance, exhibitions and music.

Vale of Rheidol Railway; a steam train which travels 12 miles from Aberystwyth to the beautiful Victorian attraction of Devils Bridge. 

Aberystwyth Cliff Railway; the UK's longest electric funicular railway, where visitors can experience spectacular and uninterrupted views of the town. 

Magic of Life Butterfly House; where visitors can see hundreds of colourful butterflies, giant caterpillars and a large collection of rare and endangered plants. There are also beautiful woodland walks and waterfalls nearby in the stunning Rheidol Valley.  

Nant-Yr-Arian Forest; which sits at the head of a dramatic valley, commanding views of Cardigan Bay and the Cambrian Mountains. Through the forest there are beautiful walks and mountain biking trails; and it is also possible to watch the red kites being fed by the lake.

Aberystwyth North BeachAberystwyth South Beach and nearby Ynyslas Beach; visit the Seaside Award winning beautiful beaches surrounding Aberystwyth; which are a focal point of the town due to their clean, dark sand and shingle.
