Intellectual Property and Technology Transfer

The Research, Business & Innovation department is committed to helping Aberystwyth University’s academic staff protect intellectual property (IP) and assist with the commercialisation of appropriate technology.

There is a wealth of IP: patents, copyright, design rights, database rights, plant breeding rights, and unpublished “know how” created via research and other academic activity. To help staff members understand the classification of IP and the benefits of IP protection the technology transfer office has produced the following document: Aberystwyth University's guide to Intellectual Property (English) .

Intellectual Property may have commercial potential, as new products or services. It is the role of the Technology Transfer team to identify this potential and work with you to progress it to market. We have a defined process that will give your invention the best chance of reaching the market.

For an informal and confidential one-to-one discussion relating to your work, please contact Catrin Davies to arrange a meeting.

Following a meeting with the Technology Transfer Team you will be asked to complete an invention disclosure form to record your idea/ invetion. Once completed the form can be submitted via email to Catrin Davies.

The University has a joint intellectual property policy with Bangor University. Details of this policy can be found here: Aberystwyth University & Bangor University Common Intellectual Property Policy
