Andrew Macdowell, our new UKRO (UK Research Office, Brussels) European Advisor for Wales, will be coming to Aberystwyth University presenting sessions on Horizon 2020.  Horizon 2020 is the EU Research and Innovation funding programme with a budget of €70.2bn.  Academics and Researchers are invited to attend the sessions at Aberystwyth University.

The Wellcome Trust provide funding across a range of schemes and disciplines including arts, humanities, social sciences and biological sciences. In recent years the university has had Wellcome Trust funding for research in European Languages, History & Welsh History and Biological Sciences.

This is a rare opportunity for research active staff to get access to the funder and places for 1-2-1 sessions are limited. To book a funding surgery you must email your details to us with a brief description of your project including the Wellcome funding scheme you are interested in applying for. 

Attendance at the open session and applying for a funding surgery must be made via email to rdostaff@aber.ac.uk,

The Art of Brilliance - Inspiring People  

Medrus 

Penbryn Penglais Campus

 

Andy Cope, the Founder of the Art of Being Brilliant, will be leading this interactive session.  

The aim is to share some of the ‘secrets’ of Positive Psychology, focusing on learning new habits of thinking and behaviour that will sustain personal ‘brilliance’. It is about the ‘whole you’ and, as such, is applicable in and out of work. This is open to all researchers (PGR, PDRA, RA, ECR and academic staff).

Places are limited for this inspiring and life changing and affirming programme.

This is a new programme of seven 1-hour sessions starting on 25th October 2017, and is strongly recommended for anyone new to a research active role in the University (academic staff and PDRA/RA).  Topics to be covered are below:

  • Applying for research grants
  • Research ethics and integrity
  • Research Data Management
  • Research impact (engaging the public)
  • Managing research grants
  • Open Communication of Research
  • What is the REF

Sessions will include the principles of each topic and also the Aberystwyth protocols.

To book a place on the programme (or for any queries) please email rdostaff@aber.ac.uk  by 27th September 2017.  Numbers are restricted so bookings for individual sessions (rather than the whole programme) will be confirmed only if space allows.  

We will also be running the programme again later in the academic year.

Expert Seminar:  ‘Building a Research Grant Portfolio’ IBERS.30

Michael Woods is Professor Transformative Social Science and Co-Director of the Centre for Welsh Politics and Society / WISERD@Aberystwyth. Over the last twenty years he has obtained over £12m in research grants and contracts from funding bodies including the ESRC, AHRC, European Research Council, EU Framework Programme 7, Horizon 2020, the Welsh and UK governments and others. Major projects have included GLOBAL-RURAL on globalization and rural areas, IMAJINE on spatial justice and territorial inequalities, the WISERD Civil Society research centre, Wales Rural Observatory, and work on rural protest and community leadership.

Seminars are open to all disciplines and all researchers.

The seminar includes time for questions and answers.  No need to book in advance, but please contact rdostaff@aber.ac.uk if you need more information.
