New Aberystwyth Bursaries
Please note that this information applies to applicants beginning their course in 2012.
We have committed a proportion of our fee income to create a bursary scheme to assist full-time undergraduate students from the United Kingdom and the European Union.
If your residual household income is £34,090* or below you will be entitled to receive a bursary towards your living costs. The current income thresholds are:
|
Household Income |
Annual Bursary |
|
£0 - £18,370 |
£1,100 |
|
£18,371 - £23,610 |
£950 |
|
£23,611 - £28,850 |
£800 |
|
£28,851 - £34,090 |
£700 |
UK students do not have to complete a separate application form for the bursary. The University will receive the financial assessment of your household income made by your local authority and will use this to assess your entitlement to a bursary. If you are not eligible for a bursary when you start your course, but your family income subsequently falls, you can still receive an award in later years. It is vital therefore that you apply to your local authority for support. However, if you or the persons named in Section 10 of the Student Support application form PN1 declare that information about eligibility for student finance should not be shared, it will result in you not being considered for an Aberystwyth Bursary.
Please visit the relevant website for where you normally live for details on how your eligibility will be assessed:
- Wales - Student Finance Wales
- England - Student Finance England
- Northern Ireland - Student Finance Northern Ireland
- Scotland - Student Awards Agency for Scotland
Applicants from the EU should complete and return the student finance form which will be sent directly to them by the EU team - further details are available from the DirectGov website.
The bursary will be paid directly to you in instalments throughout the year.
Please note that the Aberystwyth Bursary
- Does not have to be paid back
- Is in addition to government grants and loans, Scholarships and Bursaries administered by Aberystwyth University (but will be withheld in the event of a recipient becoming indebted to the University, and set against any outstanding debt)
- Is open to all full-time UK and EU undergraduate students who have applied to the relevant authority for support
