Regulations for Excellence Bursaries

1. |
Excellence Bursaries are designed to recognise and reward high levels of academic achievement before entering university for full-time undergraduate study in subject areas determined by the University. |

Excellence Bursaries are open to all applicants who are normally resident in the UK/EU who will have attained the age of 17 by 1st October in the year of proposed entry to the University, and who have not hitherto been students at a Higher Education Institution (including Aberystwyth) for a period of one year or more. |
| 3. | The Excellence Bursaries are restricted to certain undergraduate/HND subject areas. The subject areas concerned are identified before the commencement of the year of application and are subject to change on an annual basis. Currently, the subject areas are: Agricultural and Rural Sciences, Animal and Equine Sciences, Biological Sciences, Computer Science and Software Engineering, Earth and Environmental Sciences, European Languages including French, German, Spanish, Welsh, Irish and Celtic Studies, Mathematics and Statistics, Physical Geography, Physical Sciences, Psychology, Sport and Exercise Science, and defined schemes taught mainly through the medium of Welsh (a minimum of 50%). |
| 4. | The minimum academic standards required for undergraduate Masters/Bachelor degree schemes are: 320 points from the best full three A levels (or equivalent qualifications). Any specific A level (or equivalent) pre-requisites of the offer, as required for the degree scheme proposed, must be included at the specified level in the three best A-levels. In the case of mature aged candidates, the most recent pre-Higher Education qualification will be considered. |
| 5. | The minimum academic requirements for Foundation Degrees and Higher National Diplomas are: 160 points to include passes at 2 A levels or equivalent, to include any specified level of performance at A level or equivalent. |
| 6. | Applicants must have applied to Aberystwyth through UCAS by 30th June, and must choose Aberystwyth as 'Firm' choice when notifying their choices to UCAS. |
| 7. | All applicants for eligible subjects who are holding Aberystwyth as their unconditional or conditional firm choice at the last closing date will be considered. There are no special application forms. Successful applicants will be informed before the start of the academic session and the commencement of study if they have been awarded a Bursary. |
| 8. | The tenure of Excellence Bursaries shall cease at the end of the normal duration of the scheme of study (4/5 year schemes involving compulsory periods abroad or integrated professional training are included). |
| 9. | The tenure of the Excellence Bursary will cease if the holder changes to another scheme of study which does not qualify for the award (as advertised at the time of the student's application). |
| 10. | Aberystwyth University will terminate the Excellence Bursary if the holder has not made satisfactory progress as shown by the assessments and examinations of the University. |
| 11. | Although it is not possible to hold an Excellence Bursary together with an Entrance Scholarship or Merit Award, any of these three awards can be held with any number of the other Bursaries Aberystwyth has to offer. |
| 12. | Aberystwyth University reserves the right to withdraw or cancel, without notice, any bursary or scholarship and may amend any regulation concerning the award. The University reserves the right to retain Bursary payments against any debt students may accrue against the University. The value of the Excellence Bursary is revised from time to time. |
