  • Level 1 courses  that provide 10  or 20 credits equating to level 4 of the National Qualifications Framework (equivalent to the level of a first year undergraduate university course)
  • Qualifications
  • Assessments

Qualifications

Your credits can be gained individually, and used to demonstrate your knowledge, ability to study at Higher Education level, and your interest in your chosen subject areaBlack and white

You can also build up 120 credits to achieve a Certificate in Higher Education. 120 credits which is equivalent to one year of a full time undergraduate University course.

You can register on a Certificate of Higher Education at any time in your studies, and can put credits you have already gained towards the Certificate. As there are some core modules which you must gain to qualify for a Certificate, we advise you to register and gain further information as early as possible. Registering for a Certificate costs nothing – you just pay for the courses you take as you go along.

Assessments

There are no exams or timed tests. Instead, assessment tasks are a natural part of the learning process which help you to research issues, practice skills and discuss ideas taught on the course. Depending on the course you take, assessment tasks might include:

  • taking part in a class discussion
  • completing a project of your choice
  • using the internet to search for answers to questions posed in class
  • giving an oral presentation
  • transcribing historical documents
  • producing pieces of creative writing eg short story, poem etc
  • preparing a report reflecting on your own work or experience
  • producing a poster
  • Giving written answers to questions posed in class

Don’t worry if you have not studied for some time. All our tutors understand the special issues adult learners have when they return to learn, and are ready to support you as you commence your learning journey.

Our tutors will be able to support you. The University also has sections on its website where you can access study skills information, which is available to download.
