Psychology and Childhood Studies

Courses in 2012-13

A full list of Psychology Courses

Are these courses for me?

Yes, everyone is welcome on our courses.  A background in psychology is not required. The programme gives a choice of courses in Aberystwyth and Cardigan.

Personal interest

Many of our students take one or two courses every year simply out of personal interest. Just dip in to the programme and you may become engrossed in the courses on offer.

Professional Development and Employability

Individual courses are ideal for professional development to broaden knowledge and enhance skills or to fill skill gaps whilst in employment. Alternatively, if you are seeking employment our courses could give you a competitive edge in the job market.  Life skills such as developing effective listening skills, dealing with conflict in the work place and working as part of a team are invaluable in any job.  Techniques to enhance these ‘life skills’ are taught in the following courses

  • Dealing with Conflict
  • Skills for Counselling
  • Further Skills for Counselling
  • Introduction to Working with Groups

An individual course can proudly be added to a C.V.   They are ideal for anyone who cannot contemplate full time study due to other commitments and provide you with a part-time pathway to study psychology, even a completed Higher Education Certificate.

Assessment

There are no exams.  Instead assessment tasks are a natural part of the learning process which help you to research issues, practise skills and discuss ideas taught on the course.  Assessment tasks may include taking part in a class discussion, using observations or case studies to apply what you have learnt on a course or preparing a report reflecting your own work or experience.

Don’t worry if you have not studied for sometime.  There is a ‘Study Skills’ course starting in January 2012 which can help build your skills in writing, critical reading, time management and organisation.

Where are the courses held?
