Management Information Systems in a Further Education Environment (MBA Thesis)
Biography
In Owen’s current role, he is responsible for working with colleagues to identify and develop Continuous Professional Development, work based learning and consultancy opportunities. The role entails identifying new opportunities for generating income from external sources, strategically planning and co-ordinating a CPD programme of courses across the School and with partner organisations
Prior to taking up his employment at SELL, Owen has held a number of educational roles both in Further and Higher Education.
As Elearning Advisor - Libraries and Information Systems for RSC Wales, based at Swansea University, Owen’s role involved stimulating the use of technology facilitated learning in a variety of educational contexts, including Work based learning, Adult and Community Education and job seekers. The role focused directly on supporting staff and learners and expanding educational engagement with technology.
Owen specialised on the business potential of Web 2.0 applications, enabling more effective promotion and marketing by using tools including social networking, geographic information systems and text based services (SMS) to improve and promote efficiency in terms of resource utilisation and enhanced educational results. Owen also created the first draft of the RSC’s Welsh language strategy, and had direct input into the bidding process for JISC funding calls, reviewing and supporting organisations’ bids and providing constructive feedback.

Management of Swansea Partnership Learn Direct and college eLearning activity.
Distributed management of a team of 52 staff for Swansea Partnership Learn Direct and college eLearning activity. Development of a cost recovery portfolio and integration of Elearning into Faculty, Curriculum and Functional areas;
IT Business Curriculum Manager. The Business College, Swansea
Management of learning and development (teams and processes) at the Cygnus ICT Business Centre.
The role included leadership and internal verification of the NVQ ICT and business programmes, and Ecommerce Consultancy, along with sales and Industrial liaison. ILT Champion. KEF Innovation Strategy Manager (Strand 2);
ICT Specialist. Cygnus Online
Development and training on new generation ICT qualifications including ICL, Cisco, Microsoft and CompTIA academies and videoconferencing. Developing, coaching and leading the ICT delivery team. External liaison. Responsibilities included ILT strategy and policy formulation and implementation.
IT Staff Trainer. Principal's Office
Delivery of IT, ICT and ILT training exclusively to staff members, ranging from individuals to faculty sized groups, improving operational performance of 490 staff.
IT Trainer, GNVQ Co-ordinator. Faculty of Management & Professional Studies
Teaching and training on ICT courses in different curriculum areas to diverse audiences including NEETS, adults and businesses, with age ranges from 14-83.
Prior to working at Swansea College, Owen undertook a number of jobs, including Jobplan/Workwise leader, student adviser/counsellor; entertainment manager, market researcher and researcher for K-Gold Radio Station, Missouri, USA.
