Biography

After completing a Biology degree at Aston University I won an industrial CASE studentship from the BBSRC to study for a PhD at Oxford University.  My research focussed on investigating how demyelination occurs in the nervous system.  Demyelination is associated with many nervous system diseases, including multiple scelerosis.  At Oxford University I began teaching giving tutorials to medical students.  I continued in this field of medical research, working at Oxford and Southampton Universities for five years.  After a year travelling I retrained as a secondary school teacher and taught science at Prestatyn High School to 11-18 year olds for 5 years before moving to Aberystwyth with my husband and starting a family.
