Gary Akehurst

Emeritus Professor

Gary has a BSc Econ in Economics, an MSc Econ in Management from the University of Wales and a PhD in Marketing from Nottingham Trent University. He is a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Marketing and a Fellow of the Institute of Sales and Marketing Management.

In addition to a number of management consulting projects in the UK and Europe, Gary has just finished teaching research methods and economics at the University of Winchester; also MBA strategy classes at the University of Portsmouth; and a one-off day on team management, performance and change management for defence industry personnel taking the MSc International Defence Marketing at Cranfield University. In 2007 and 2008 he undertook MBA human resources and organisational architecture teaching in Bangalore, India for DBA Global Business School and Rotterdam Business School, Rotterdam University. For several years Gary has been supervising executive MBA projects and the teaching of an MBA elective in e-marketing at RSM Erasmus University. He has just finished a three year term as an external examiner of the MSc International Defence Marketing programme at Cranfield and The Defence Academy of the United Kingdom.
Gary was a judge of the 2006, 2007 and 2008 British Excellence in Sales Management Awards of the Institute of Sales & Marketing Management. He was judge for the 2009 BESMA awards, whose winners were announced on 27 May 2010 at The Royal Lancaster Hotel in London. He continues to be Chair of the Examiners of the Institute of Sales & Marketing Management and adviser in services to the European Union, having recently been a member of the EU working party on business services.

Gary is a member of the Editorial Board of The Journal of Vacation Marketing (Sage) , Journal of Financial Services Marketing (Palgrave Macmillan), Service Business (Springer, USA), and the Board of Reviewers, Decision Sciences  (Blackwells, USA). He has recently been invited to join the Editorial Board of The International Review on Public & Nonprofit Marketing (Springer, USA)
