Biography

Gwyn is a businessman and experienced Chairman, Director and Non-executive Director whose areas of expertise are Entrepreneurial Management, Leadership and Change. He has applied these in different organizational cultures: as an entrepreneur, as a board member of large plc’s, and in the Public Sector and dealt regularly with Chairmen and CEOs internationally, and with UK Cabinet Ministers.

He has been an active investor for over 20 years and maintains a portfolio focused on ICT, media and training opportunities.

In addition he is a Visiting Professor specializing in Entrepreneurial Management and ‘Power and Politics in the Boardroom’. He teaches at the Business Schools of the Universities of Aberystwyth, Essex, Greenwich, Leicester and Manchester.

Gwyn started his career as a technology entrepreneur, successfully starting, growing and exiting software businesses.

As a Director at Apricot Computers plc he was part of the board that led the transformation of the loss making PC manufacturer into a highly successful software house that was sold to Misys plc for £250m.

As a Director at Tesco plc he was part of the board that re-established the brand and developed the change strategies that transformed the company, and led to a growth in revenues from £7bn to £72bn.

As a Governor of the BBC he helped bring commercial rigour into the boardroom of this world renowned broadcaster at a time of great change. He encouraged the adoption of new technologies, distribution channels and commercial policies, and developed a reputation for being rational and independent especially during crises.

As Chairman of the Welsh Development Agency he was part of the team that made Wales the most successful region in Europe for winning foreign direct investment and which brought the unemployment rate in Wales down to the lowest of any region in the UK including the South East. He dealt personally with the CEOs of Sony, Matsushita, Daewoo, Toyota, Bosch, Ford, United Technologies and many other companies,.

As Chairman of Si he led an MBO, a merger and the organic growth that formed the management and training consultancy rogenSi. The company delivered expertise in Leadership and Change to multi national clients through its hub offices in London, New York and Sydney and its satellite offices in ten other cities.

He was the Senior Independent Director at Invesco English and International Trust plc, Chairman of the North West Equity Fund, a member of the S4C Authority, and a NED at several other companies.
