Vicarage Playing Fields

The playing fields represent the jewel in the crown of Aberystwyth Universities sporting facilities and are located on two sites. The nationally renowned Vicarage Playing Fields, some 16 acres, are home to the first football, rugby, tennis and cricket teams. These immaculately maintained facilities are the flagship of excellence and have been the envy of visiting teams for years. The grounds staff and management team take a genuine pride in maintaining and extending this reputation for excellence and the students reap the benefits by playing on a top class surface. Indeed, such is the quality, that we are able to attract prestigious external user groups such as the All Wales Soccer Tournament, professional football teams and various National Governing Bodies of Sport, including cricket, hockey and football.

Tennis

At Vicarage Playing Fields we have 2 grass, and 3 tarmac tennis courts. We also have a new court available to members in the grounds of the Plas.

Members also have access to the newly refurbished Tennis project at North Road Tennis Club, with discounted rates to join the club. More information on this facility can be found on the Aberystwyth Tennis Club website.

3G Pitch

The facility measures 40m x 25m, and is an additional training facility for contact sports. It's floodlit, and located in front of the Sports Centre, adjacent to the existing Astro Pitch.  Available for use by students, student clubs, staff, schools and community groups all year round. More information and booking details can be found here.

Blaendolau Playing Fields

The other, and larger, site is at Blaendolau where equally impressive pitches occupy some 34 acres. Here, in addition to the many team fixtures, intra mural football and cricket league matches are played. A further asset of both sites is their close proximity to the main campus, the town and student accommodation, thus making for easy accessibility.

In addition to the grass pitches, there are two artificial cricket wickets at Blaendolau, cricket practice nets.

Floodlit Artificial Pitch

The floodlit artificial pitch provides an excellent year-round surface, primarily for hockey and football. Use of the facility is shared with the Community and so training times are allotted to University Teams during the evenings and hockey matches played on Wednesdays and Weekends. Departmental hockey and football matches are also very popular activities (despite the ferocity of competition!) and generally take place at lunch times.
