FAQs

How can I use the facility?

To gain access to the facility, it is necessary to attend a 1-hour induction (which requires a small payment). These are offered regularly throughout the term and can be booked up to a week in advance at the Sports Centre Reception. (01970 622 280).

After your induction, those competent can work with the aid of the Wellness Key, whilst those requiring a little moral support can come during the supervised sessions. Those requiring specialist advice for their training can always make use of our Personal Training Service.

Do I have to be a member?

You do not have to be a member to use the Wellness Centre,  however it is considerably cheaper if you are. Check out the membership options.

How much does it cost to use the gym?

Please consult our Prices page for information about how much it costs to use the gym.

What are gold cards?

Gold cards give you unlimited access to the Wellness Centre and the Free Weights room for certain periods over the year, providing you have been inducted. Information on costs and options can be found here.

Where do I get my Wellness Key from?

On completion of your induction, you can then pick up your key from the Wellness Office. Call into the reception and a member of staff will assist you in setting up your key. This service is only available during weekdays.

What if I lost or forget my key?

In the event of you forgetting your key, please locate a gym instructor to allocate you a temporary key. A deposit for the key is required and is only available during weekdays.

Replacement keys can be purchased for a small charge.

Can I get additional support after completing the Induction?

We have supervised times during the week, these tend to be 12.00-2.00pm and 4.00-9.30pm Monday to Friday. Our qualifiied gym instructors are there to assist you if required.  Alternatively, if you are looking for a specific programme design or goal, please check out our Personal Training Service.

I have been inducted elsewhere, do I have to be inducted again?

It is compulsory for you to go through the University Induction process to gain access to our facilities. Our comprehensive induction service is provided by qualified instructors and is tailored specifically to the Wellness Centre. This complies with health and safety legislation.

Do I need to bring anything to the Induction?

The induction is partly active, so you will need to be wearing gym clothes such as tracksuit and trainers. (Please do not come in jeans or shoes). You will get to try the equipment and ask questions, some people will take notes during this session, or make notes of the correct machines settings for future reference.

A water bottle and towel is also recommended.
