Campus Sports Facilities

Welcome

Welcome to Aberystwyth University Sports Centre. We hope that you enjoy your visit on campus and take the time to make use of the excellent facilities and services we have here.  These are some of the things we can offer you to make your stay more enjoyable:-

What we can offer

One of our most popular destinations for visitors and locals alike is the main Technogym Wellness Centre.  There are 60 pieces of CV equipment and a comprehensive range of resistance machines. For more specialist users, we have both a dedicated free weights room and another plate loaded area for advanced training. Throughout the day we have staff able to help you with your training, and we also provide an excellent Personal Trainer service for one-to-one programmes.  Another favourite is our "FitTogether Programme" with over 40 exercise classes a week available.  You can come and try something new like Zumba, or enjoy a favourite like aerobics, step, spin, Pilates, yoga or circuits. No need to book in advance, simply turn up and pay on the door.  We also have an indoor climbing wall and a pool, with saunarium, that is open from early morning to late at night. Our indoor facilities allow you to play badminton, short tennis, basketball or netball.  The outdoor facilities include a 2-lane 400m running track, a 3G Pitch, an all-weather floodlit hockey/football pitch as well as extensive playing fields and access to the local town Tennis Club.

How can I use the Sports Centre?

In order to access the Sports Centre, you will need your “Sports Pass” which is available from your residence’s Reception. Please make sure that the card is completed correctly, with your reservation number, name, and details of your stay at the University. Bring your card along to the Sports Centre and our staff will be able to help and guide you in how to make best use of the Centre.

How can I book facilities?

Either call in to the Centre or phone (01970) 622280 to see if the facility that you want to use is available. You can use the sports halls, pool, gym, climbing wall and outdoor pitches for free.  A small charge is made for some areas, such as the exercise classes, racquet hire or floodlights.

When can I use the Sports Centre?

Our Sports Centre is open every day of the week. We are open 8am – 9pm Monday to Friday, 8am – 4pm Saturday and 9am – 4pm on Sunday. The Sports Cage is not usually open for casual bookings but may be hired by groups – please phone for details, and to arrange a tailored activity to meet your group’s needs.

Can I have exclusive use?

If your group would like to hire our sports facilities, or arrange specially-tailored activities such as Zumba, Pilates, personal training programmes or fitness testing then please contact the Conference Office prior to your visit or contact us directly once on site to arrange terms and conditions. Please contact Jeff Saycell on jrs@aber.ac.uk or Krystal Waltho krw@aber.ac.uk or phone 01970 622275

How to use the Gym

You are welcome to use the Wellness Centre gyms for the duration of your stay as stated on your Conference Visitor’s Sports Pass. Please come in appropriate sports clothing and bring a towel along. The opening hours for Conference Visitors will be from 10am – 9pm Monday to Friday. In the interests of safety, you will be required to complete a PARQ form and fill in the agreement form which will need to be countersigned by a member of staff. You will need to bring a £5 deposit for a Wellness Key.

If you wish to use the free weights gym, you will need to arrange an accreditation with one of our instructors between 10 – 9pm Monday to Friday. The lift assessment is tailored to meet Sports Centre guidelines and your needs. A £5 fee is payable for accreditation and can be booked in advance. Please note at the gym is not available to those under 16 years of age.

Swimming Pool

Our pool is open most of the time during general opening hours; however, it is worth checking the web pages to see about specific times as we sometimes have private bookings that restrict access.
http://www.aber.ac.uk/en/sportscentre/pool/times/

Please be aware of the health and safety regulations regarding access to our Swimming Pool during general swimming sessions:

1. All children under the age of 14 have to be accompanied by a responsible adult.
2. If your child is under 8, there needs to be one adult for every two children, and this drops to one to one supervision for the under 6s.
3. This policy is in respect of general swimming sessions only and does not affect activities such as swimming lessons organised by the Sports Centre or pre-arranged group bookings.

Climbing Wall (Box Rox)

Please note that all climbers need to complete a registration form as recommended by the BMC.  There is a one off fee of £5 for this. Further, we ask that novice climbers only use the wall with an experienced climber who is happy to take responsibility for the session – the relevant forms for this are available at the centre.
If you wish to use the centre and you do not have an experienced climber in your group, you will be able to either hire the facility with an instructor, or take an induction on how to use the wall safely.  Please contact the Sports Centre to arrange this. Opening times: Monday-Friday 9.00am – 9.00pm, Saturday & Sunday 9.00am – 4.00pm.
We hope you enjoy your stay in Aberystwyth and look forward to meeting you at the Sports Centre
