So grab yourself a carton of popcorn, sit back, relax and read how much film is on offer to you at Aberystwyth.
Cinema
As far as cinemas go you have the choice of three that show a wide variety of film; and as luck would have it they're listed below:
The Commodore Cinema is a family run cinema that shows all of the latest mainstream releases. They also have a fully licensed bar, so if you fancy a drink before or even during the movie then go for it.
Drwm cinema in the National Library of Wales regularly screens classic films and will occasionally screen silent movies by critically acclaimed silent film accompanists.
The Arts Centre Cinema is the first independent cinema in Wales to own a High Definition digital projector with satellite technology and the first to have the ability to show 3D films. The Art Centre Cinema shows a varied selection of mainstream and arthouse films with special screenings that bring guest directors and speakers from around the world for Q&As. The cinema doesn't just show films: it also broadcasts live satellite events from around the world.
Film Nights
Just as the name suggests, there are certain nights of the week that are dedicated to film; and "Monday night at the movies" screen new and pre-released movies in the Students'
Union every single Monday for FREE, yes, it won't cost you a penny. There are several societies that screen film nights, the Arts Centre film society, Comp Soc and the Science Fiction and Fantasy society do regularly.
Obviously, films aren't just watchable on the "big screen". There are plenty of places that rent films: Pier Video, The Students' Union Shop, 24 hour SPAR and the one in the Hugh Owen Library's are free for you to borrow (and having a big Film and TV department means there is a huge choice).
Film Festivals
Film festivals are a must for any film lover and Aberystwyth has loads of them... they tend to focus on the significant niche art forms: Abertoir Horror Festival is Wales' national horror festival, and provides a packed programme of gory delights; whilst others focus on Latino Films, BFI tours, World Cinema, classic and retro films.
I was completely gobsmacked by the cinema when I first saw it – you tend to judge a book by its cover and I was just blown away, I thought It was remarkable. I love the Arts Centre Cinema
