Sun, Sea & Sand
Beach Life
When we ask our current students why they decided to come to Aberystwyth University, we expect them to say: "because Aberystwyth offer an internationally renowned education". or "because Aberystwyth offer a brilliant student experience". But, more often than not they tell us: "it's because of the seaside and beaches"!
The beaches and seaside will take a huge part of your student life, especially in the summer, where you're more than likely spend those lazy days relaxing by the shore on one of the area's many beaches with your friends. Put on the sun cream and grab your towel, because this is Sun, Sea and Sand.
The Beaches
Aberystwyth is right on the coast, which means you are spoilt for choice when it comes to beaches; the most popular ones are: North Beach and South Beach, and the six mile long beach in Borth and Ynyslas with its golden sands and massive sand dunes.
North Beach is directly opposite all Halls of residence on the sea front and during the warmer parts of the year is full of students' sun bathing and playing in the sea. South Beach on the other hand is the BBQ capital of Aberystwyth and when the evenings get longer, you'll spend a lot of the time chilling on South Beach watching the beautiful sun sets from the shoreline while tucking into yet another BBQ with your friends.
Borth and Ynyslas beach is six miles of golden sands and environmentally protected sand dunes for you to explore. The best part of the beach in Borth and Ynyslas, apart from the amazing sand, is that you and your friends will always be able to find your very own spot to claim as your own. In fact, on sunny days, you won't want to be anywhere else...

If you don’t fancy a night getting stuck to the dance floor, then a BBQ on one of the stunning beaches is an excellent alternative. The Welsh weather gets a bad reputation – I’ve spent more time on that beach getting sunburnt than inside watching rain on the window.
