Mental Health

The University welcomes applications from students with diagnosed mental health issues and we encourage you to disclose your condition and needs at the point of application or as soon as known thereafter.  We will support you within our remit as an educational provider.  This includes:

  • Provision of University accommodation where you meet the eligibility criteria, apply and disclose your condition by the relevant deadline;
  • Support from an Accessibility Adviser who will facilitate the provision of reasonable adjustments within the University
  • Support from an Accessibility Adviser who will liaise with external organisations such as Social Services/Community Psychiatric Nurses, in respect of any non educational services which you may require;
  • Information and advice from an Accessibility Adviser about your eligibility for a Study Needs Assessment and the Disabled Students  Allowance;
  • Support from a Mentor or Specialist Tutor where this has been recommended by a Study Needs Assessment;
  • Impartial, confidential advice and support from a Mental Health Nurse/Advisor (this service does not replicate statutory provision and the Mental Health Nurse/Advisor cannot access help for you student from statutory services);
  • Provision of counselling during office hours if you request this;
  • Training for staff on mental health awareness.

 

We DO NOT provide services which are the responsibility of statutory organisation including:

  • GP support
  • Provision of a  mental health assessment
  • Support from a Community Psychiatric Nurse
  • Support from a Social Worker
  • Crisis Resolution Services
