Signpost Mentoring Scheme
Friendly, confidential, one-to-one advice on any aspect of university life.
A mentoring scheme for new students to help you
- Settle down in University life
- Achieve your potential
- Plan for the future
- Make most of your time at University
What is the scheme?
The Signpost Mentoring Scheme is operated by Student Support. It is a peer support scheme for any first year Student (HND, Foundation or Undergraduate) designed to enable students to make the most of their time at University. The mentor can help with any aspect of life at university, whether academic, social, or financial. Acting as a link to services available for students within the university, the mentor can also help with organising your studies and finding motivation.
How does it work?
Mentors in the Signpost scheme are either 3rd year undergraduates or postgraduates. They have been trained to deal with issues facing first year students, and they have all recently been 1st years themselves! Each student has 3 one-to-one meetings with their mentor each semester, and email support between meetings.
Who can benefit?
Any first year student can benefit from mentoring! Mentoring could help you if you
- are feeling homesick or just need more time to settle in
- need help with time-management
- would like to talk to someone about your progress
- are not sure about what AU can offer
- have additional pressures outside your coursework
Please note that whilst our aim is to make this scheme available to any 1st year student, our resources are currently limited and therefore we offer the service on a needs basis.
