Join Our Teams

Each year around March/April, we start the process of recruiting volunteers Residential Support team members for the forthcoming academic year.  Placements and further details will be advertised on the Human Resources site once vacancies have been confirmed.

There are two types of role:  Residential Support Co-ordinators, who lead Residential Support teams to deliver and shape a high quality residential experience for student learners at Aberystwyth University and Resident Tutors who are responsible for the day to day support needs of the residents in their patch.

To be eligible to join the team you must have a substantial connection with the University for the full academic year  either as a student or as a member of staff.  (Please note that Sabbatical Officers of the Students’ Union are not eligible).  Because of the nature of these volunteer roles please consider carefully whether you are able to offer the flexibility and commitment required before submitting an application.

For the better performance of the role you will be required to live in halls of residence and your accommodation and utility bills (excluding personal telephone calls) will be provided without charge.  In addition, Residential Support Co-ordinators receive a small honararium payable quarterly.

While we will make every effort to accommodate you in a team of your choice we have to be mindful of the business need.  Teams must offer a balance of skills, experience, subject areas and be as diverse as the general student population.  Any offer of a placement will first and foremost take these issues into account.

You should be able to demonstrate experience of working with others, including a good understanding of the requirements of supporting students in an higher education setting.  You should also possess strong interpersonal and communication skills to enable you to deal effectively with resident students, halls staff and if applying for a role as a Co-ordinator you must be confident of your ability to lead and motivate your Residential Support team.  You must also have excellent organisational skills as well as the ability to be creative in devising and implementing strategies to effectively meet students’ needs.

While you will primarily undertake your role outside of normal office hours you must be flexible to follow up on issues during the daytime, including attendance at relevant team meetings or ongoing personal development activities.
