Free Undergraduate course: Writing, Communication and Information Skills

** The Semester 1 programme has finished however this programme will be repeated in Semester 2.  Self-enrolment via Blackboard will be available **

Overview: This is a programme of Wednesday afternoon presentations in essay writing, communicating in seminars, revision and exam skills, working with lectures and information, library and web-based research skills.

We send a reminder email to all students enrolled on the programme in advance of each class. You are welcome to attend any or all of the classes.

Who the course is for:
The programme is open to all undergraduates and will be particularly relevant to those who may be unfamiliar with the requirements of academic study practices in general or how these practices may differ in a UK university context.

Learning outcomes: On completion of the whole course it is expected that you will be able to:

  • Identify the key requirements of academic assignments
  • Work effectively with information presented and discussed in lectures and seminars ways in which the information can be used in academic assignments
  • Identify and appropriately use a range of University and external resources for assignments within the University’s guidelines for good academic practice
  • Create and maintain a clear, focused and well structured argument in written assignments
  • Manage revision time and strategies for working with exam requirements
