Welsh Medium Provision

The development of Welsh-medium provision is an important aspect of Aberystwyth’s academic programme and is in accordance with the obligation contained in our Charter to give special attention to the educational needs of Wales, having regard to the Welsh language and culture.

We have a Bilingual Policy and official documents (handbooks and forms) issued by the University Administration and academic departments for general circulation to students are bilingual.  If you write to the University in either Welsh or English you will receive your reply in the same language. Provision is made to assist and encourage those students, and staff, who wish to learn Welsh.

The University’s Welsh Language Scheme, (www.aber.ac.uk/en/cgg) prepared in accordance with the Welsh Language Act, was approved by the Welsh Language Board in December 2003. The Scheme states the University’s policy on providing Welsh-medium education and services.

All students have the right to sit their exams through the medium of Welsh.  If your course was delivered through the medium of English, but you wish to sit your exams in Welsh, you must notify the Centre for Welsh Language Services of your intentions on the appropriate form by 1 November in Semester 1 and by 1 March in Semester 2.
