Examinations taken away from Aberystwyth

All examinations are normally held in Aberystwyth. In exceptional cases, permission may be given to hold examinations away from Aberystwyth, subject to the following guidelines:

  1. Requests to take examinations away from Aberystwyth must be approved by the Dean of the Faculty responsible for the module concerned.
  2. Such requests, whether from students or from departments on students' behalf, should be made by 1 November in Semester 1, and by 20 March in Semester 2; they should be directed through the Academic Office.
  3. When such requests have been approved, departments should, in conjunction with the Academic Office, make appropriate arrangements with named individuals at the host university or centre at least four weeks before the beginning of the examination period
  4. Departments should consider setting separate examinations for incoming exchange students to take before they leave Aberystwyth.
  5. Examinations should be taken at the same time (or as near as is practical) at Aberystwyth and elsewhere. When there is a lapse of time between examinations held in different centres, different papers should normally be set.
  6. It is suggested that papers should be faxed to the host university on the morning or afternoon the examination is taken in Aberystwyth. Reasonable precautions (e.g. a reserve fax number) should be taken against technical failure.
  7. The host university or other approved venue should be asked to have appropriate means of confirming the identity of candidates.
  8. Arrangements with host universities should include the means by which examination scripts are returned to Aberystwyth as rapidly as possible for marking.
  9. The University has established arrangements with the British Council (at Athens and Kuala Lumpur) which cover supplementary and other examinations. It is expected that these arrangements will continue as at present.
