The Aber Staff LGB&T Network

rainbow flagWho we are:

The Aber Staff LGB&T Network was set up in 2010. It's open to anyone who works at the university (in any capacity), and any research postgraduates who identify as lesbian, gay, bi, trans, queer or questioning, plus friends of our community.

What we do:

The Aber Staff LGB&T Network was set up to allow LGB&T staff to socialise, network, explore relevant professional issues and areas, and enjoy events such as film showings and reading groups. Anyone is welcome to become involved in the social life or the running of the group (for details, please contact Natashe Alden - nla@aber.ac.uk).

How the University Supports Us:

Aber has long be queer-friendly, and - according to Niall Griffith's Real Aberystwyth (Seren, 2008) - the 'unofficial gay capital of Wales'. The university has put in a number of measures over the last years to ensure that Aber is a welcoming, tolerant place to work and study.

  • All staff and students are protected by the university’s harassment policy
  • All staff are trained in LGBT issues as part of the compulsory Diversity in the Workplace we all do
  • HR are able to support anyone with issues arising from sexual orientation or gender diversity issues
  • We are, proudly, Stonewall Champions!

Where and When?

To be kept up-to-date on activities, please contact Natasha, who will add you to the mailing list. We hope to start a Queer Fiction reading group next semester, and to hold a gay film season to celebrate LGB History month in 2013. If you have any ideas for events, speakers or socials, please get in touch!
