Facilities

The Department offers a range of professional facilities and resources, all of which are available to hire.  For further details, please contact us:

  • Three fully-equipped studios, seating approximately 100 people each; the two larger ones are approximately 16x16m, the third is 13x9m. 
  • All three studios are equipped with fully digital lighting rigs with a minimum of 72 2.5kw dimmers controlled via ETC Congo and Strand Lighting consoles, Yamaha and Soundcraft PAs, Sanyo AV systems and Strand lighting.
  • Our main performance space has a Yamaha M7 (ES) and full range Nexo PA consisting of 8 x PS10s, 2 x RS18 and 2 x NXAMP. It is equipped with a tension wire grid and full theatre facilities.
  • Three rehearsal studios, each with sprung floors and AV facilities
  • Costume and wardrobe facilities
  • HD digital television studio and gallery
  • 36 digital and HD editing suites and over 40 industry standard HD and digital cameras
  • Digital sound studio with advanced multi-track digital recording via Logic Pro, 12 GB Mac Pro and Yamaha O1V
  • The Centre for Performance Research is an international research centre within the department and holds a unique set of collections of publications and audio-visual materials on world theatre and performance
  • Close proximity to and partnership with the National Library of Wales, one of the five copyright deposit libraries of the UK, including the specialist National Sound and Screen Archive of Wales.
  • Further facilities, available through our partnerships with Boomerang PLC, Wales's largest independent television production company; Aberystwyth Arts Centre (based next to the department on the Penglais Campus); and Theatr Arad Goch, an Aberystwyth-based theatre organisation which has benefited from substantial recent investment. The BBC’s Mid Wales offices and studios are also housed within the department’s Parry Williams Building.
