Degree schemes star in student satisfaction survey

Undergraduate degree schemes at Aberystwyth University’s Department of Theatre, Film and Television Studies have been given high rankings in the 2017 National Student Survey (NSS).
Published on Wednesday 9 August 2017, the annual poll of final-year undergraduates records student satisfaction for the Department’s Drama & Theatre Studies degree scheme at 94% and the Film & Television Studies degree scheme at 93%.
At subject level, overall student satisfaction for Drama is at 94% putting it in the top 15 across the UK.
The Department’s achievements are part of a wider success story at Aberystwyth University which is rated the best in Wales and one of the top five higher education institutions in the UK for overall student satisfaction, according to the 2017 NSS.
The results show that overall satisfaction amongst students at Aberystwyth University stands at 91% which is significantly higher than the UK figure of 84%.
Dr Anwen Jones, Head of the Department of Theatre, Film and Television Studies at Aberystwyth University, said: “'As a department, we a delighted with the results of the latest National Student Survey. These high levels of satisfaction for our degree schemes reflect the quality of learning and teaching in the department. This, combined with a positive student experience and vibrant research environment, places us as one of the leading departments in the UK in these subject areas.”

The NSS figures follow closely on the heels of the latest employability figures for UK universities which showed that 95% of Aberystwyth University graduates were in work or further study six months after leaving in 2016.
The National Student Survey is carried out annually by IPSOS Mori on behalf of the UK’s higher education funding councils and interviews more than 300,000 final year students in Wales, England, Scotland and Northern Ireland.
Students are asked to rate their university across a wide range of measures including quality of teaching, assessment and feedback, academic support, organisation and management, learning resources, learning community and student voice.
Aberystwyth University’s rankings are based on the overall satisfaction question and use the list of higher education institutes from The Times and Sunday Times Good University Guide 2018.
