How To Apply - PhD Applicants

Making and application for a place

If you would like to make an initial enquiry about working with us as an  MPhil/PhD candidate in the department of Theatre, Film and Television Studies (TFTS), please send your proposal and an indication of the funding for which you intend to apply to the Departmental Director of Postrgraduate Studies,  Dr Heike Roms hhp@aber.ac.uk .  Please follow the 'Guidance on writing a PhD proposal for TFTS'.

Applications for doctoral study will be considered first in the light of our ability to provide satisfactory supervisory support, both at the level of the topic on which you plan to work, and at the level of the methods you will use for this.  Once we have considered your proposal we will be in touch to encourage you to make a formal application.   At this point, please complete an ‘Application Form For Research Programmes’ and reference forms available from the Postgraduate Admissions Office and send at your earliest convenience to the address given on the form, along with a hardcopy of your proposal.

If you wish to be considered for any kind of  funding you should contact us in October (or by January at the very latest) for advice and guidance on preparing a good application.  Different submission deadlines and procedures will apply for the various funding schemes so please contact us for details.

Entry Requirements

The Department of Theatre, Film and Television Studies deals with applications for admission to all schemes on an individual and equal opportunity basis.  Our selection process takes into consideration all aspects of the application.  We positively welcome applications from every section of the population.

All applicants must satisfy the Department’s language requirement which is IELTS 7.0 (or equivalent).
