Performance Studies - Single Honours (W990)
Course Information
Performance Studies at Aberystwyth is dedicated to the making and analysis of many forms and styles of live event. Through the practice of theory and the theory of practice you will be engaged from the outset in creative work and being challenged to think about performance in new and innovative ways. You will make group performances and solo performances, give presentations and present your intellectual ideas through performance.
You may already have an interest in movement, design, multi-media, new and innovative theatre, and performance styles from around the world; we develop these interests an introduce you to physical theatre, site-specific work, live art, ritual and public ceremony, protest performance and the politics of social engagement. In Performance Studies, you will be encouraged to develop your own artistic practice, informed by your own particular interests, so that whatever style of performance or theatre you wish to make, you will be equipped with the right tools to bring your ideas and imaginings to fruition.
Our course at Aberystwyth was one of the first in Britain to concentrate on innovative forms of performance and the teaching team has a strong presence of practicing artists and field-leading academic staff. It capitalizes upon the presence in the Department of Theatre, Film and Television of the Centre for Performance Research (CPR) which has a performance archive and library and which organises festivals, conferences, publications and visits by guest lecturers and directors. We have close links with several leading UK based companies and students work regularly with professional practitioners.
