Drama and Theatre Studies (W400)

Course Introduction

The Drama & Theatre Studies course has been carefully designed to ensure an integrated critical and creative experience and a clearly structured development of intellectual, practical and technical skills for our students. In the first year you study a number of introductory modules, combining textual and production analysis with theatre history, as well as the skills of creative work.

Your second year takes a closer look at the theatrical event, starting with  modules combining textual and performance analysis, such as Theatre in Society, European Drama, and Making Theatre, Making History. You then select from a series of modules which explore elements of theatre production, such as  acting, directing, lighting, sound, set and costume design.

The third year begins with an intensive semester of practical work, a unique feature of the Department's provision, where analytical, critical and practical skills are brought together and tested creatively through full-scale production work.
