Research Funding

Acquiring funding support can be the most difficult part of organising a research project and it is often necessary to apply to more than one source.

There is a vast range of research related activities and expenses for which you could apply for funding. These can be for anything from small projects to large international collaborative projects. Here are some examples:

  • Travel, accommodation and maintenance cost of bringing key speakers to a conference.
  • Travel, subsistence and accommodation for attending conferences in the UK and abroad. Publication of scholarly works
  • Research assistants and secretarial support
  • Networking costs
  • Hosting a visit by a member of staff from a theatre, studio or similar environment.
  • Preparation of research for public output
  • Equipment
  • External advice
  • Consumable
  • Specialist software
  • Preparing illustrative material
  • Organising a small workshop (including bringing foreign scholars to the UK).
  • Sabbatical leave.

All funding bodies have different eligibility requirements, aims and interests. Please consult the organisation’s web pages for the most up to date information about different schemes and their deadlines.  The Department's Research Administrator, Ceris Medhurst-Jones is also available to offer advice and guidance.
