UK's Most Liked University

On the 31st March 2011 Aberystwyth University became the UK’s “most liked University” on Facebook.

The competition, called, University Face Off is the first of its kind to find the most supported university in the UK. With 130 UK universities and over 11,000 people taking part in the competition voters were asked to like, comment, tweet and tag themselves in photographs within the University Face Off page to receive points for their elected university.

Aberystwyth University came on top by a huge margin with 3420 points, beating 2nd place, The Open University by a staggering 1487 points. Aberystwyth’s dominance over Welsh universities was emphatic, beating Bangor University (5th) and Swansea University (8th) by 2664 and 2855 points respectively.

Professor Aled Jones, Aberystwyth University’s Pro Vice Chancellor was pleased to see the University’s excellent reputation for student satisfaction and friendliness highlighted in a national competition:

“Students are always the first priority and the University does everything possible to ensure that they have all the resources and facilities they require to succeed in their chosen area and that the delivery of those services are undertaken in as direct and friendly a manner as possible.”
