Luke Unsworth, Marketing & Management, Ceredigion
Why did you choose to study at Aberystwyth?
There are a few reasons, 1 my brother and sister came here, she transferred from Cheltenham in her third year and she really enjoyed it, and my brother really enjoyed it. Also I wanted to stay in Wales because of the incentives from the Government, it was cheaper to stay in Wales. A lot of my friends went to Cardiff University, but I wanted to make new friends and not just continue with the old ones – as much as I love the old ones!
How easy was it to settle in at Aberystwyth?
Really easy, I was stayed in a flat with 8 people and made friends with them straight away on my first day, had a really good fresher’s week last year and met loads of people on the course, and I’ve got loads of friends now just everywhere.
What is the department like and what do you like best about the course?
The department’s really good, the reception staff are really friendly. My course, I’ve never done anything like this, I didn’t do business at A-level, so it’s all really new to me. I’m really enjoying learning it all for the first time.
What is the social life like here?
Really good, it’s amazing. There are quite a few places to go out, and because it’s not a small place, everybody seems to know each other. Wherever you go when you’re out, you’ll know somebody and have a laugh.
Would you recommend Aberystwyth to others?
Absolutely, it’s just a really friendly place. I’ve never felt secluded from anybody or anything, everybody’s really keen to get you into things. I’m in my second year now, but I’ve only just joined the hockey team, and everybody’s really keen to get me involved in that. Other people have said the things they’ve been involved in they’ve been really keen. It’s a really friendly place.
