The Year in Employment Scheme (YES)

A special feature of the University is the opportunity for students to undergo a year's paid work experience between the second and final years of their course. This is a voluntary activity and Aberystwyth is almost unique in the UK in offering such a scheme to all its students irrespective of degree subject. Taking a year in employment gives you the opportunity to test the water in a particular career area, acquire the skills needed to secure a graduate-level job and also develop your confidence and maturity while gaining all important ‘work experience' for your CV. Students find work in commerce, industry and the public sector – and secure placements both at home and abroad. Latest figures show that the percentage of YES graduates gaining graduate level employment six months after graduation is higher than that for students who did not opt for a year's work experience.

GO Wales Placements

GO Wales offers student and graduate work placements in Wales. These paid placements offer you the opportunity to dramatically improve your CV and thereby increase your chances of successful long-term employment. Averaging around ten weeks each, the placements enable you to work in small or medium-sized enterprises(SMEs) and to gain real experience on graduate calibre projects. The benefits of working for these smaller firms include role variety, clear responsibilities and job satisfaction.

GO Wales Work Tasters

Work Tasters are short term flexible periods of work experience designed to help you decide on a career path. Available throughout the year, these placements are unpaid and voluntary although you can claim travel expenses. They provide excellent opportunities to gain valuable work experience and references for enhancing your CV and future job applications.
