This degree in Film and Television Studies and English Literature is one of the most popular of our Joint Honours degrees, in which you divide your time equally between two subjects. If you have previously studied Film and Television Studies and English Literature and would like to pursue your interest in both subjects, this degree may well be the one for you. Many students on the course, however, will not have had the opportunity to study film and television formally before, so that this is the start of an exciting new discipline for them.
As a student of the Aberystwyth degree in Film and Television Studies and English Literature, you will divide your time between two outstanding Departments. The Department of English Literature and Creative Writing was rated "Excellent" in the last Teaching Quality exercise, and has a particularly strong commitment to small group and workshop teaching. The Department of Theatre, Film and Television Studies has outstanding practical facilities including SOTA digital television studio, digital sound studio, four fully equipped performance studios, thirty-six digital editing suites, eighteen HD industry-standard digital cameras and 40 industry-standard digital cameras. It is rated second in the UK for the academic excellence of its research.

Year 1
In the first year of your degree in Film and Television Studies and English Literature, you will study the following core modules, which lay the basis for all your future studies:

- Media Production Workshop
Years 2+3
In the second and third years of your degree in Film and Television Studies and English Literature, there is greater flexibility, as you develop your skills and focus your interests. There are still some core modules but, increasingly, you will choose from an extensive range of option modules, still maintaining the 50-50 balance between the two subjects.
