Content and Structure
The scheme has a strong base of equine and biological sciences combined with more applied aspects relating to equine management practice. You also have the option of developing your knowledge further by selecting from some optional modules.
Years 1 and 2
The first year includes fundamental biological science modules such as physiology, genetics and metabolism as well as applied modules including exercise physiology and the equine industry. During your first year you will also have to undertake a compulsory study tour for which you will need to make a contribution towards the costs. Details of costs are available on the University's website, or see page 180. Core modules in the second year will develop your understanding of equine and human exercise, physiology, equine nutrition, health and behaviour, immunology and reproductive physiology. There is a compulsory work experience module.
Year 3
The final year aims to complete the process of integrating scientific principles with equine management practice. The core modules include equine stud management, advanced equine nutrition and veterinary science. In addition optional modules are available to develop further your interests and specialist skills. A central feature of the final year is an individual research project, on a topic of your choice, upon which your honours dissertation will be based.
Learning and Teaching
