Romance Languages: degree structure

Year 1

In Year 1 of your Romance Languages degree, you study two or three of the Romance Languages: French, Spanish or Italian. Modules are offered at both Beginnmers and Advanced levels in all three languages: students may take one or two languages at Advanced level and one at Beginners Module.

Years 2+4

The core of your second year is the compulsory module in Romance Linguistics, in which you study the linguistic relationship between the Romance Languages, their common features and aspects of difference. This module also helps you to place each of the languages in its wider cultural context. Further option modules offer you the opportunity to study aspects of French, Spanish or Italian culture in greater depth, with an excellent range of modules covering, for example, the language of modern business and current affairs or the history of art and culture.

Year 3

As a student on this Romance Languages degree, you will probably spend your year abroad in at least two different countries, living in the culture of two of the languages in which you are specialising.
