Criminology with Applied Psychology Degree at Aberystwyth University

M9C8 - 3 year BSc Econ Degree Scheme

Criminology with Applied Psychology Degree [M9C8]

The Criminology with Applied Psychology degree scheme differs slightly from the main criminology degree in that there is a greater emphasis upon individual aspects of offending behaviour.

In the first year, you're introduced to basic legal principles, introductory psychology, and to a broad spectrum of criminological theories.

In the subsequent two years, one third of the course focuses on studying psychology in relation to offenders and criminal behaviour. There is also training in the basic methods of criminological research which will provide you with the skills for critical evaluation of both theory and empirical studies within this field.

Criminology with Applied Psychology Employability

Criminology provides an excellent academic foundation for those considering careers in the Police, the Prison Service and the National Probation Service. It is also appropriate for those interested in a career in regulatory fields such as Trading Standards and HM Revenue and Customs, or as intelligence analysts for the Police and Security Services.

Although the Criminology with Applied Psychology programme does not provide training to become a psychologist, it will equip students with more specialised knowledge to pursue careers in fields associated with, for example, the rehabilitation of offenders and care of other vulnerable people.

The Criminology and Applied Psychology degree also provides the research and analytical background necessary for postgraduate study in this and related disciplines.
