Undergraduate Law Degrees at Aberystwyth

The Department of Law and Criminology offers two types of Law Degree: LLB and BA. Both are qualifying Law degrees for entry to the legal profession. In our LLB Law Degrees, you will study exclusively legal modules and be able to specialise in particular aspects of the Law; whereas on the BA Law degrees, you will study two thirds of your modules in law (the ‘major’ part) and select the other third from modules in other departments (the ‘minor’ part). In most cases students choose another specific discipline to link with their legal studies from the list under BA Law below. Both of these degrees are qualifying law degrees for the purposes of entering the legal profession.

There can be no society - and certainly no stable society - without a basis in law. In a modern, democratic, society, the Law exists - or should exist - to ensure justice between citizen and citizen, citizen and corporation, corporation and corporation, and between citizen and corporation and the state. Studying law therefore not only involves an examination of what the law is and how it functions, but an examination of relations of justice and injustice within society. Fascinating in itself, the study of law also develops rigorous analytical skills, the ability to present clear and focused argument and the capacity for independent thought.

The Department offers the following Law Degrees:

You can also get a BA Law degree by studying two-thirds Law modules and one third from any of the following subjects: it will still be a qualifying Law degree, provided you take the right Law modules:

French; German; Accounting and Finance; Business and Management; Criminology; Economics; Information Management; International Politics; Marketing; Mathematics; Politics; Spanish; Welsh.
